What if family member happens to have stroke?
A stroke is a medical condition in which poor blood flow to the brain results in cell death. There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic, due to bleeding. Both result in parts of the brain not functioning properly. (Sources: Wikipedia)
If a family member have stroke, he or she might have difficulties to speak, eat, and move about. Family need to have a Caregiver/ Caregiver maid to take care the loved one.
1. Stay calm, be positive and be happy
There are ways to recover from stroke, and do not suffer from emotional difficulties. Post-stroke patient easily get in to depression during the recovery process. If you discover the loved one lost interest in appetite, easily angry, emotional and not willing to smile. You may need to calm and say positive words, your words can motivate the loved one to move on.
2. Hire a Caregiver/ Caregiver Maid
You may need someone to assist your loved one on ADL (Activities Daily Living) to avoid personal burnout. In Malaysia, is not easy to sacrifice your job and just full time to take care the love one without any income. Each of the family member to pool out a fund for hiring a Caregiver/ Caregiver Maid would be the best solution.
This is very important to have the rehabilitation process for your loved one. Physiotherapy can help to regain the strength and is take times. You need to follow the instruction and do not miss any sessions of the physiotherapy. Your loved one will slowly gain back the strength and walk again.
4. Never miss the medications
Medication is so important to your loved one. You need to clarify with the doctor and nurse about the medication side effect. Proper record and monitor the symptoms is a basic routine job in order to make sure everything is in order. Medications help a stroke patient to recover and during the progress, you need to believe that this medications can recover, never give up and never miss the medications to mess up the life.
